2016 Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim and Champions of the Channel
Highly regarded worldwide and one of Western Australia's iconic events, the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island. Whether competing as a solo, duo or team, the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim is a 'team' event with all swimmers surrounded by a support network of paddlers, boat skippers and crew. The event, managed by the Rottnest Channel Swim Association, is held in February of each year and is Rottnest Island's biggest day.
Champions of the Channel update

The Rottnest Channel Swim Association (RCSA) has decided to move Champions of the Channel (CotC) to Saturday, 27 February 2016. As with many first time events, and especially one that has a qualifying entry requirement such as this event, registrations for the CotC have not reached minimum milestones to continue in its current form.

We still believe in the concept, but feel that we need a soft launch of CotC before it can standalone as its own event. It is a strategic priority for the RCSA to continue to enhance the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim and also work towards managing the numbers, and we believe CotC will still achieve that.

What this means:

  • CotC will be a race within a race (competing for something else), similar to the Lavan Legal Charity Challenge.
  • Existing KRRCS competitors who can meet the qualification requirements may transfer to CotC. If you would like to do this, please contact the RCSA on 9389 4080 or email admin@rottnestchannelswim.com.au by COB on Friday, 4 December 2015.
  • CotC competitors will leave at 5.45am, prior to the first wave of solos. Solos will then leave in the following three waves at 5.55am, 6.05am and 6.15am.
  • Given the pace at which the CotC competitors will move, we anticipate there will be little, if any, mixing of CotC swimmers and the rest of the fleet.

Calling all volunteers!

With the 2016 Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim (incorporating Champions of the Channel and Lavan Legal Charity Challenge) fast approaching, we have now begun our search for volunteers. Volunteers are a vital part of the Rotto Swim, and without them and their amazing dedication, we would not be able to deliver the big day!

We require volunteers for a variety of roles at the event briefing on Tuesday, 2 February 2016 as well as on event day – Saturday, 27 February 2016 at both the start and finish line.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please visit our Volunteers page.

Interested in supporting an international or state team?

As the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim event grows every year, we are lucky to attract a number of international and interstate swimmers who wish to join you as you make the annual crossing to Rottnest. All entrants are required to have a support boat for the swim and solos who have registered to share a boat must have a paddler each for swimmer safety.

The RCSA is seeking expressions of interest for skippers who would like to assist with an international or interstate solo, duo or team.

We understand how difficult it can be to find a support crew and even more so for our distant swimming community. If you are interested in helping an international or interstate swimmer, please contact enquirires@rottnestchannelswim.com.au and we will connect you will those looking for a support boat and crew.

If you are still looking for a skipper and support crew, we encourage you to post on our RCSA forum or facebook page.
