Two months to go!

Highly regarded worldwide and one of Western Australia's iconic events, the Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island. Whether competing as a solo, duo or team, the Rottnest Channel Swim is a team event with all swimmers surrounded by a support network of paddlers, boat skippers and crew. The event, managed by the Rottnest Channel Swim Association, is held in February of each year and is Rottnest Island's biggest day.

Qualifying swims for Solos

Under the Event rules, an intending Solo swimmer must have either completed a ratified solo crossing within the previous two years (2016 and 2017) or completed a 10km qualifying swim between 1 November 2017 and 1 February 2018.

If you haven't successfully completed a solo crossing in the past two years, local swimmers are encouraged to qualify by entering in the official Rotto Rehearsal at Sorrento Beach (WA) on Friday, 26 January 2018. Alternatively, if you are unable to take part in the Rotto Rehearsal, visit our website for other qualifying swim options.

Be aware, you must complete a qualifying swim in under 4 hours and 15 minutes to qualify. After the completion of your qualifying swim you will need to log on to and enter your time and supporting details.

Support Crew Info Night

Registrations are essential for our 2018 Support Crew Info Night so if your skipper, paddler and other support crew would like insight into what to expect on swim day, this is an opportunity for them to ask questions and hear tips and tricks from experienced Rotto Swim skippers and paddlers.

Held from 4.45pm on Saturday, 3 February 2018 at HBF Stadium directly following the Metro Safety Briefing, there will also be representatives from Fremantle Volunteer Sea Rescue Group, Department of Transport (Marine Safety), and Rottnest Island Authority.

Attention new paddlers

Did you know we also have a Rotto Swim Paddler Course available?

Thanks to our friends at Paddle WA, the course is specifically designed for new or inexperienced paddlers to help with your Rottnest Channel Swim crossing. The course runs from 8am – 12pm on Sunday, 4 February 2018 at the Ascot Kayak Club in Garvey Park and will go over the basics of paddler strokes, essential support crew tips, and what to expect on Event day. Click here to register.

Please note that participants in the course are required to bring their own equipment and a minimum of 10 registrations is required to run the course.

2018 Rotto Swim merch

The official 2018 Rottnest Channel Swim t-shirts are still available to purchase through the online registration system. The t-shirts are a great way to thank your support crew and cheer squad but are a fantastic souvenir of your favourite day!

T-shirts are $40 each and if purchased via your account before 5.30pm on Monday, 1 January 2018 they will be included in your race pack, ready for collection at the Metro Safety Briefing!

As each successfully registered participant has an account, everyone can purchase their own additional t-shirts with their personal credit cards – which means no surprises on your captain's credit card! For more information, please see question 10 in our Registration FAQs.
