Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim
Highly regarded worldwide and one of Western Australia's iconic events, the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island. Whether competing as a solo, duo or team, the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim is a 'team' event with all swimmers surrounded by a support network of paddlers, boat skippers and crew. The event, managed by the Rottnest Channel Swim Association, is held in February of each year and is Rottnest Island's biggest day.
Registrations Opening Soon!

Thanks to the arrival of the warmer weather we can now start counting down to the 2016 Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim!

Registrations for the 2016 Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim will open for one week only from 8.00am (AWST) Monday, 12 October to 5.30pm (AWST) Sunday, 18 October 2015. All of the information required for registrations can be found on the event website.

Entry categories for the 2016 event are:

  • Solos - $330
  • Duos (team of two) - $550
  • Teams (teams of four) - $1,000

Please note that payment for all categories will be required at the time of registration.

The Lavan Legal Charity Challenge (LLCC) will again operate on a 'first in, first served' basis. The entry fee remains at $1,900 and is for teams of four.

Solos who register during the registration week are guaranteed an entry. In 2016, solos will be offered the opportunity to share a support boat (maximum two solos per boat). Please let us know at the time of registration if you intend to share your boat. This will help us allocate entries prior to running the ballot.

The ballot for duos and teams will be run on Monday, 19 October 2015. Unsuccessful duo and team applications will be notified by email and will receive a full refund.

It is against the spirit of the event to enter duplicate entries. The RCSA cross matches names to check for multiple entries. Should multiple entries be found, the entrant(s) will face a ban from future events and will unlikely be given a refund.

For further information about the event please visit the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim website, or contact the Rottnest Channel Swim Association office on (08) 9389 4080 or via email

Information from the Swimmers' Seminar held in September is now available. Information ranges from training, nutrition and recovery to cross-training and shoulder biomechanics.

We also have two 'Rotto Swim' specific videos about hypothermia and pulmonary edema. Thank you to Channel Ten for producing, and to Professor Ian Rogers and soloist John Muir for providing their insights. If you are considering entering as a solo, we strongly recommend you take the time to watch these.

Visit the event website for the swimmers seminar recap.

2016 T-shirt Design Winner

Congratulations to Gavin Crisp, the winner of the 2016 Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim t-shirt design competition!

The design tells the narrative of the 'Rotto Swim', capturing the energy and excitement of the event. We can attribute this to Gavin's experience participating in the Swim – he has done both a solo and duo! Gavin has accepted a team entry as his prize, and will be joining us for his first team crossing in the 2016 event!

Curtin University: Shoulder Pain Research

Curtin University is conducting research on shoulder pain developed from swimming. The research team is hoping to gain a better understanding of the mechanism of injury through looking at the thickness of the shoulder muscles of swimmers with and without shoulder pain.

Participants will undergo a 20 minute ultrasound of their shoulders and complete two questionnaires.  Click here for more information.
