City wins WA Heritage award

Congratulations to the City's Fremantle Arts Centre who last night won a coveted WA Heritage Award for its augmented reality iPad tour that traces the site's history as a US Navy Submarine Depot during WWII.

The app was designed by Fremantle-based specialist Justin McArdle and his company Frame.AR. Visit the state heritage website

High Street

High Street widening project not supported

After careful consideration and input from the community over the past months, council felt that Main Road Western Australia's (MRWA) High Street Fremantle upgrade project was not in the best interests of the area and could not support the proposal.

A number of design issues were raised by the City with MRWA, particularly the provision of connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists including the crossing of the upgraded road, the impact on Fremantle Environmental Resource Network (FERN) and the impact on public and private golf courses.

Council voted for a more appropriate road upgrade with a tighter and slower curve as well as reducing the number of trees lost and less impact on the golf courses. View the proposal details.
