2016 Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim!
Highly regarded worldwide and one of Western Australia's iconic events, the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island. Whether competing as a solo, duo or team, the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim is a 'team' event with all swimmers surrounded by a support network of paddlers, boat skippers and crew. The event, managed by the Rottnest Channel Swim Association, is held in February of each year and is Rottnest Island's biggest day.
Not one, but two events in 2016!

Registration week is always an exciting time in the Rottnest Channel Swim Association office, and even more exciting this year with two events…!

Registrations for the 2016 Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim are open until 5.30pm (WST) Sunday, 18 October 2015. As per usual, solos are guaranteed entry during this period, while duos and teams are entered into the ballot to secure their spot.

The Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim is now in its 26th year. The number of people wanting to take part increases every year so make sure to get your entry in before registrations close on Sunday!

Champions of the Channel is the RCSA's new (but much smaller) 'elite' event, with over $20,000 on offer in prize money! The event will be running on Sunday, 28 February 2016 after the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim and is designed for that very small group of swimmers who can make the crossing in around 5 hours. Please visit our website for more information and to register your expression of interest for the inaugural event.

We wish you all the best of luck with the ballot and your swim training!

Qualifying Swims for 2016 Solos

All solos are required to have completed either: a previous solo crossing in the past two years, or a 10km qualifying swim.

The 10km solo qualifying swim needs to be completed between Saturday, 1 November 2015 and Sunday, 1 February 2016. There are a number of 10km events available as part of Swimming WA's open water swim series, including the official Rotto Rehearsal being held on Tuesday, 26 January at Sorrento Beach (WA) in 2016.

The 10km qualifying swim needs to be completed within 4 hours and 15 minutes to be eligible for entry.

Please visit our website for a list of the qualification swim events.

2016 Virtual Rottnest Swim Expression of Interest

The Virtual Rottnest Channel Swim (VRCS) is on again this year. It is designed for those who cannot make the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim, don't feel brave enough to battle the open water or simply want a bit of fun and friendly competition at their local pool!

We are excited to be partnering with Swimming WA for this year's VRCS, and together we plan on making it better than ever! With Swimming WA, the VRCS encourages swimmers not only to get involved in their local community but also to raise funds for their local swim club. Participants must be at least 10 years old to enter, and we welcome expressions of interest from all areas!

If you and your local pool are interested, please register your interest by completing the form available online here and email

Lavan Legal

Lavan Legal is a proud, long term supporter of and competitor in the Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim's cornerstone event, the Lavan Legal Charity Challenge.

Join Lavan Legal's two competing teams swimming in the Lavan Legal Charity Challenge and help raise much needed funds for charities like the Starlight Children's Foundation.

Competition to secure one of the 50 places is once again fierce. There are still some places available, so contact the RCSA now to make sure you don't miss out!

We hope the warm weather inspires your training for this world-renowned open water swim!

We are looking for volunteers!

With the weather starting to warm up and registration week nearly over, the 2016 Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim will be here in no time! We are now on the hunt for volunteers at our start line at Cottesloe Beach and the finish line at Rottnest Island.

Volunteers are a vital part of the Rotto Swim, and without them and their dedication, we would not be able to deliver the event. We have a variety of roles available for the Main Event Briefing on Tuesday, 2 February 2016 and on event days: Saturday, 27 and Sunday, 28 February 2016.

If you are interested in volunteering in either of this year's events, please visit our Volunteers page for more information or contact us on
