Freo Fans Well done Freo!

Congratulations to everyone who came to Fremantle on Saturday 28 September for the City's AFL Grand Final celebrations. It was a fantastic, family-friendly event enjoyed by more than 40,000 passionate supporters.

Even though our team didn't win, the Fremantle Dockers, our city and its community has won the hearts of the nation and we should all be very proud!

City Hall 2013 local government elections - have your say

It's council election time and time to cast your vote for the elected members of council who will guide Fremantle for the next four years.

The postal election will be held on Saturday 19 October 2013.

Fremantle Vilage $1b development bonanza in Fremantle

Proving it's not just the local AFL footy team boosting the port city's fortunes, the City of Fremantle has compiled figures that show the current pipeline of public and private investment in Fremantle is edging towards $1 billion.

The unprecedented surge in investment in Fremantle follows recent amendments to the local town planning scheme that allow for greater density within key strategic locations in the Fremantle CBD.

Youth Plaza Construction of Fremantle's world-class youth plaza to begin

Construction of Fremantle's Esplanade Youth Plaza will begin later this month with the world-class facility expected to be completed by April 2014.

It will be much more than just WA's premier skate park, with elements including enhanced lighting, a stage area, landscaping and a promenade-style footpath linking to Fishing Boat Harbour some of the many features. It will even host WA's first outdoor parkour park!

Construction crews will soon be fencing off the site area, which will include a portion of the adjacent Esplanade car park. The remainder of the Esplanade Reserve will be fully accessible to the public throughout construction.

Fremantle Festival It's Fremantle Festival time! (25 October–10 November 2013)

The 108th Fremantle Festival Fremantle is about to begin, with the streets of the port city brought to life with more than 100 community events over two weeks. Major events this year include: Blessing of the Fleet, Seafood Festival, Jazz in the Park, Childrens Fiesta, Norfolk Lanes, Wardarnji, Coffee Festival, Craft Beer and Food, Street Parade plus much more.

Kings Square Kings Square consultation takes out top award

The City of Fremantle's community consultation process carried out as part of the Kings Square Urban Design Strategy has won the WA project of the year award at the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) core values awards.

Kids Spring school holiday ideas

The school holidays are finally here and there are a range of exciting activities and workshops on offer by the City for people of all ages. These include: a range of arts and craft activities, school of puppetry, free youth activities or you might even try your hand at learning to sail. There is plenty more to choose from, appealing to everyone - including mums and dads!

2013 Amateur Photographic Competition

As part of the Fremantle Festival, the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2013 Amateur Photographic Competition. 

The competition aims to stimulate creativity and encourage aspiring photographers to "think outside the box”. The competition is now live and closes on Friday 11 October 2013.

Kim Beazley School Site Kim Beazley School site structure plan

The City welcomes public comment on the proposed local structure plan to guide planning for the site of the former Kim Beazley School in White Gum Valley.

The plan and accompanying report, as well as a submission document, can be downloaded at the community engagement section of the City's website

Fremantle- Cockburn Travelsmart Trek 2013 Fremantle–Cockburn Travelsmart Trek 2013

Travelsmart Trek is on again this Sunday 13 October. Come and participate in one of two free walks: Beach walk with horses from Randwick Stables or a walk around Clontarf Hill with a local Aboriginal guide. Guest guides will present talks about the local area, culture and environment. All registered groups will receive a free morning tea.

Tim Winton Library Talk with Tim Winton

Join us for an evening with Australia's finest writer, Tim Winton,  who will be speaking about his highly anticipated new novel, Eyrie.

Tim will be appearing at the Fremantle Town Hall, Wednesday 16 October, 6.00 pm for 6.30 pm start. Tickets $10 (or for $40 you can also get a signed copy of Eyrie).

Customer service Did you know the customer service centre is now open Saturdays!

The City's customer service centre (Town Hall Admin building) is now open for a trial period on Saturday mornings from 9.30 am until 12.30 pm.

O'Connor business plan – proposed City operations centre O'Connor business plan – proposed City operations centre

The City is seeking comments on the proposal to purchase the property at 144 Carrington Street, O'Connor for the purpose of building an operations centre.

The City will consider any comments received before finalising its consideration to purchase the property. Comments close Tuesday 15 October 2013.

Train Fremantle train line disruptions this weekend

As part of the Perth City Link Rail Alliance, the Fremantle train line will be out of action due to works being undertaken from 10.00 pm Friday 11 October and will resume services on Monday 14 October.

In order to minimise the impacts on any other weekends, especially during the Fremantle Festival, there will also be some night closures taking place between now and the end of October. Fremantle Art Centre Fremantle Arts Centre's fourth term of art courses kick off

There are plenty of courses on offer at Fremantle Arts Centre, including: drawing, jewellery, ceramics, sculpture, fashion, performing arts and more... this is the perfect way to unwind and learn new skills!

Courses range from short and fun kids holiday daytime sessions to in depth weekly courses for grownups. Kid's courses have already started, Adults Tuesday 12 October.
